20/20 Vision | State of Fallen Man

Ever since Adam & Eve disobeyed God by eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, mankind has been in a fallen state. From a state of innocence to a condition of dead in trespasses and sin, every man, woman, boy, and girl are plagued with a sin nature from birth.

The penalty for sin was death: [Genesis 2:17]
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

The wages of sin is death: [Romans 6:23;]
Fallen man is dead in trespasses and sins: Ephesians 2:1]

This was an immediate spiritual death and the beginning of physical death.
Therefore, everyone born in Adam (born of woman) is born spiritually dead and will physically die.

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: [Romans 5:12]

We have three enemies: the world, the flesh, and the devil.
For the lost man walks according to the world, the devil, and the flesh.

The World
Walk according to the course of this world. [Ephesians 2:2]

The beliefs, values, ideals, and morals of this world are contrary to those of the Bible.

We are told:
  • Be not conformed to this world. [Romans 12:2]
  • Know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. [James 4:4]

The Devil
Walk according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience. [Ephesians 2:2]

Just as he did to Adam & Eve, Satan desires all of mankind to reject God and die in their sin.

The god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. [2 Corinthians 4:4]

The Flesh
We all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. [Ephesians 2:3]

The world and the devil work to entice our flesh to indulge in sin rather than in obedience to God. Within our flesh—our fallen nature—we are faced with all that is in the world: [1 John 2:16]
  • The lust of the flesh.
  • The lust of the eyes.
  • The pride of life.

Fallen man is in a sad state, a most horrible condition.

O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? [Romans 7:24]
