Steps to Salvation
Blue | Step 6
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
Revelation 3:20
Revelation 3:20 is often used as a call to salvation to the lost.
To the lost person, Christ says...
I stand at the door, and knock
open the door
I will come in
This is usually used in conjunction with asking the lost person to (pray and) "ask Jesus (to come) into your heart." In praying or reciting a prayer (if truly meaning it with their whole heart), the lost person is spiritually opening the door to their heart and allowing Jesus Christ to come in. By doing so, Christ then indwells the person's heart (thus their entire being, as they sup together) and the person receives salvation.
True:
If one repents of sin and puts faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, they will be saved instantly. And at the very moment of salvation, Christ indwells the believer (the former lost person). [Galatians 2:20] Although prayer often accompanies conversion, it is not the cause or means. It is the vocal expression of the converted heart.
Verse 20 of Revelation 3 was not written to the lost person, but rather to the Church (i.e. the body of Christ, those who profess to already be saved).
14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans writeTo the saved person, Revelation 3:20 is a warning: Don't shut Jesus Christ out of your heart (all that is important in your life).
22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. [Luke 12:34]So, for the lost man and the saved: Establish and ensure your relationship with Jesus Christ.
