What Jesus Demands | You Must Be Born Again

The following "What Jesus Demands" is taken from the book,
What Jesus Demands from the World by John Piper.

He mentions a list of 50,
so I thought we might take a glimpse of each of them individually.

#1 — YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN

Mankind—every male and female—is born spiritually dead. We are very much alive, but very much dead. Whereas our flesh is alive, our spirit is dead in trespasses and sin. [Ephesians 2]

Jesus told Nicodemus [John 3], "Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again."

Jesus draws two connections:
  1. Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
  2. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
We are born—of the water (flesh)—in Adam, and "in Adam all die." [1 Corinthians 15]

We must be born again—of the Spirit (spirit)—because "in Christ shall all be made alive."
[1 Corinthians 15]

Being born again—the new birth—is a demand and a necessity to enter the kingdom of God.
