Steps to Salvation
Blue | Step 1

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
John 10:10

In John 10:10 we have the thief and the I am. The thief brings destruction and death, while the I am offers life and even abundant life. So, who is this thief and who is this I am?

The thief is He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way. [John 10:1] He is the liar, the hypocrite, the false prophet, the antichrist—all which originate from the original deceiver, Satan. Just as he did to Adam and Eve, the Devil desires to steal, kill, and destroy any love, trust, and relationship we might have with God.

The I am is Christ, the very Son of God. He was born, that he might dwell among us. He lived, that he might teach and fulfill the law of God. He died, that he might take the wrath of God on our behalf. He rose again, that we might repent and be converted unto salvation—life. He brings a quickening—living—life to the spirit, a joyous life to the body, and an everlasting life to the soul. And the greater our relationship with him, the more abundant our lives will be.
